We have a well- established practice nursing team; they are able to carry out many of the traditional roles a GP may have once done. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears. They are highly qualified and regularly attend training workshops to enhance their skills. As part of our commitment to collaborative working and seamless care, nurses and health care assistants are also supervised and monitored by doctors and others members of the nursing team.

All the Healthcare Assistants are involved in routine nursing tasks, such as taking blood samples, measuring blood pressure, give vaccinations for B12, Flu, Pneumonia & Shingles and recording heartbeats using an electrocardiograph (EGG) when asked by the doctors. They also does lung function tests (spirometry) when asked by the doctor and assist the nurses in the smear, diabetic and minor ops clinics.

Responsible for the day to day running of the practice, including leading the team of receptionists. Liaising with patients, staff & external organisations to ensure the smooth & efficient running of practice activities.

Stuart is the new practice manager for Moss Valley Medical Practice. He has been working at Gosforth Valley for 7 years and is looking forward to working with the team here too.

Our receptionists are the first point of contact for patients. Their reception duties include:

• Appointments
• dealing with patient enquiries
• repeat prescriptions
• answering the telephone
• scanning & data input
• contacting patients as necessary
• dealing with incoming mail & reports
• administering recalls for regular checks
• other general administrative duties

Gavin works four days a week at the practice. He does medication reviews and helps make sure our patients are always on the best, most up to date tablets. The nurses care for patients in their home environment when housebound (e.g. through infirmity or post-operation) including terminal care and chronic disease management.

Caring at Moss Valley Practice is not limited to our building but extends in to the community as well. Helping our team to provide care in the home is Community Matron, Catherine Bardwell. She is a qualified nurse and works closely with the team here at Moss Valley ensuring that everyone has access to the best care whether in the surgery or at home.

Julie Walker works closely with Catherine Bardwell, ensuring that the care we provide patients is well co-ordinated with other health care services in the area.

IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) - The steps 2 change workers hold clinics at the surgery. Your doctor will refer you if necessary.

Health and Wellbeing Workers - Sharon Burton and Lisa Milner are our Health Trainers. Your GP or practice nurse can refer you if necessary.
